Position: Legal Director/Legal Counsel/In-House Lawyer

Location: Leeds                             

Our client is a designer, manufacturer and distributor of orthopaedic devices, trauma products, implants and technologies for joints.  They are a global leader in this type of technology and part of a larger American group which is involved in consumer health care products and services. The company has a $5 billion global presence that employs 5,300 people around the world. They are over 100 years old but were bought out by the current parent company just over ten years ago. Our client is looking for a Legal Director to form part of the senior leadership team across EMEA. This person will provide general commercial and corporate legal advice on developments and will act as a sounding board for strategic initiatives.   

Responsibilities include: 

General commercial and corporate law support.

Advise on R&D and Product Development agreements.

Support Clinical Affairs and Regulatory affairs for general guidance on clinical trials.

Provide guidance on "direct to patient" communication.

Legal advice regarding public procurement law and NHS related contracts.

Provide guidance on strategic/sensitive contracts with Health Care Professionals where legal analysis is required.

Train and educate business partners in key legal topics.

The Person: 

University degree in law required.

Lawyer admitted to practice in a member state of the European Union withminimum of 10 years professional experience in a leading law firm and/or in the law department of a company with international exposure required.

Previous experience in the life science industry preferred. 

Proven experience dealing with intellectual property rights issues strongly preferred.

Good understanding of the relevant anti-bribery legislations.

Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed organization strongly preferred.
